True Slayers Shut-down - English

true-slayers.net has been shut down on April 28th by my webspace provider.

Apparently the host I used for it is the only one on the internet that actually thinks a non-profit anime fansite with scans (or covers since that's the only thing their one-sentence email mentioned) like thousands and thousands of others existing on the internet violates copyright law and thus has to be shut down. Now, if you want it to be that way, of course every picture on any website that you didn't draw, photograph or otherwise create yourself can technically be called a violation of copyright - and you could erase any fan-made website that way - so I am not going to waste my time arguing their decision to view things that way. I can only imagine they are randomly going through all websites that use up more space then a simple personal homepage in hopes of finding anything that could be a violation of their terms and conditions to give them a reason to get some more free webspace back. At least I doubt they really go to a fansite, see scans of obscure Japanese novels and manga, some of them about 15 years old, most of them not available in the country their servers are in, and think there will be some Japanese guys knocking on their door because they don't want these images distributed online while generally not minding scanlations and fansubs of their material. I am quite disappointed and sad, of course, but like I said, there isn't really anything worth doing about it. Even if they would change their mind I would take it off their servers, and I had reasons enough for that even before, just not the time to do anything. I needed to make a decision on what to do with the website sooner or later but that doesn't make it less annoying.

What is going to happen with the information on the website? I don't know yet. I know there is Kanzakadex now which is a lot better and more modern way to collect and distribute information about something than lots of fansites trying to do that (and wasn't that what I was trying to do when I made the website - collect all the actual and correct information about an anime that had a lot of low-quality fansites full of misinformation and misunderstandings?). I don't think I have ever looked through it seriously but I suppose it has everything important there is to know so I don't know if there is any point in putting the things I wrote back online. On the other hand it isn't just about the English part after all, and I doubt the serious lack in Slayers information on the internet in Geman is any better today than it was a couple of years ago. But then again, how many German fans does that anime have in the first place (and do they care)?

What about the (evil) images? That's easier. Thanks to tons of image and file hosting services that are actually not bad at all there are plenty of possibilities. I don't know how and when to find the time for that but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to get that back up in some form (that was something I had thought about before this already, but just as something to do someday in the future, not right now..).

Anyway, just letting people know (I will be forwarding the domain to this post so people are aware) even if I don't have a clue if I am getting much traffic anymore at all - well, "much" being relative with an older anime with a less active fandom anyway.

*hugs* I've got my web domain if you want to upload stuff onto that. The site URL renewal thingy is coming up too, so I can always change it from claire-bible.org to something a bit more universal Slayers.

Slayers Revolution just aired
Hey there nimry, I really loved your site and it's sad to see how stupid some webhosts can still be considering the day and age where we live.

Slayers Revolution started airing yesterday which has sparked a huge spike of interest about Slayers, so right now I'd say it's a great time to be a fan and we need people to set the new fans right because awful lot of wrong information is already going around.

To be honest with ya, I've been a bit jealous of you germans getting some of the manga in your own language where as the english publishers suddenly decide to stop and burn all the bridges that are related to Slayers.

Hope to see you make a comeback!

Re: Slayers Revolution just aired
Sorry for not replying earlier, I missed the comment at first. Thank you, I am always happy to hear from people who care about what happened to my website and haven't forgotten about it. I still love Slayers and I love the fact that there is a new anime and a lot of other stuff coming out right now and people are re-discovering it or maybe getting into it for the first time. It's also rewarding for every fan who has stuck to Slayers and its fandom for years and years.

Especially because of the amount of new things coming out I do not think I would be able to keep up with that anymore. I don't want to put my website back online the way it was (kind of dead) because it would be severely outdated now but I do not have the time and energy anymore to maintain a website for a current anime series that needs to be updated regularly to accomodate all the new releases and information. I wish I could but I am afraid I will have to leave those things to others.

I do want to do something with the material I used to have on it but I still haven't decided or taken the time to sit down and work something out.
